Over the course of the year, the SSC will revise and adopt bylaws, identify three top goals linked to our data, meet with stakeholders from across our community to gain input in naming priorities for the following school year, support the development of the Balanced Scorecard grounded in connections between our school data and community priorities, and review budget support of those goals.

Dear Presidio Students and Families,

We are looking forward to seeing our Presidio Panthers back together. School starts tomorrow, Monday, August 20th at 9am. The school day ends at 3:25. Late start Wednesdays begin on August 22nd. Please be mindful that parking around school can be difficult and is additionally impacted this year by the construction project going on in our yard. Families are requested not to double-park or to drop their students off across the street without directing their students to walk down to the corner and cross at a designated crosswalk.

An easy after school meeting point for students and families is by “the lions” outside the auditorium. Families may prefer to agree a meeting point with their student a block or two from the school building to reduce the congestion of traffic immediately around our block. There is also a designated 38 Geary MUNI bus that picks up our Presidio students on the corner of 30th and Geary and has extra MUNI staff to support students in riding the bus safely home.

Students are reminded that they represent Presidio out in the community, please be safe, respectful, and responsible on your journey to and from school.

During the 6th grade Ice Cream Social this past Thursday, we became aware of a glitch that had resulted in some incorrect homeroom assignments.

Our administration and counselors worked together on Friday to review every students' homeroom. As a result, 6th grade students may see their initial homeroom assignment has changed. All 6th graders should report to the auditorium on Monday morning to meet their homeroom teachers. If you do not know your homeroom, don't worry, we will help you on Monday morning. 6th graders only may enter the auditorium through the doors at the corner of 30th and Clement. New 6th grade parents are welcome to stay and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea outside the auditorium doors once their student has gone inside; provided by the Presidio PTSA.

Due to a change in responsibilities of their teachers, 7th and 8th graders who were previously in homerooms assigned to Ms. Berry, Ms. Jean, Mr. Jenson, Mr. Kyle, and Ms. Ruiz may be assigned to a new homeroom. It is recommended that students from these homerooms check their schedules on Synergy on Monday morning to determine their new homeroom assignment, or check in with a counselor, administrator, or previous homeroom teacher.

As a result of construction of our new schoolyard, students and families are requested to note the following: Any students arriving at school prior to the 9am entry bell should enter the lower yard through the 29th Ave gate (the exception being 6th graders entry through the auditorium at 30th on Monday, August 20th).

To support safe and smooth entry to the school building once the 9am start bell rings, 8th graders should enter the building through the main courtyard doors, 7th graders should enter the building using the courtyard entrance to the cafeteria, and 6th graders should enter the building using the courtyard entrance nearest the auditorium. Administrators, Counselors, and School Security will be on hand to direct students to the appropriate entry points.

Students are reminded that they may not leave campus once they have entered the yard in the morning, regardless of the time.

We are excited for students to enjoy the completed sections of our new school yard. Students are reminded to be Respectful, Responsible, and Represent Presidio on the yard by keeping the space clean, disposing of all trash, recycling, and compost in the appropriate containers, and following all adult directions to ensure a safe and fun area for all to enjoy and share together as a both a place to relax and a place to learn.

The remaining section of the yard under construction has been fully enclosed with a fence. All the exposed dirt in the construction area will be watered down to keep the dust down and any exposed soil will be covered. The construction crew is keenly aware of concerns about dust and will take all measures possible to reduce dust. The construction company has assured us that noisy activities will not taken place during instructional time. Please direct any questions or concerns about the construction project to Ms. Dunbar.

yours,

Ms. Dunbar,

Principal

Dear parents and guardians,

Family Portal debuted in Fall 2017, and since this is a new tool, we want to hear from you about your experience with Family Portal as a parent or guardian. We’ve worked with Parents for Public Schools of SF to develop a survey, and the information we collect will help us as we continually work to improve your Family Portal experience.

Please fill out this short survey, available in English, Chinese and Spanish, before June 8 to give us feedback!

The safety of your child is our primary concern. This is an important reminder to talk with our children about ways to stay safe.

Below are a few tips for talking with your child about prevention and staying safe.

* When possible, walk in pairs or groups.
* Make sure parents/guardians know where children are, where they are going and who they are with.
* If your child needs to walk alone, tell them to be VERY aware of their surroundings. NO earbuds or distractions. If a car is driving by slowly, stay away from the sidewalk.
* Do not talk to adults they don't know, especially if the adult is in a car.
* If someone approaches your child or touches them without permission, tell them to scream or yell loudly using words like "no", "help", etc. to make it clear they need help. YES, It is okay to fight back physically in these situations.
* Students should not go to the neighborhood stores before or after school.  The school does not provide supervision off our campus so please remind and encourage your child to stay on the campus before school and to go straight home after school.

Thank you for helping us keeping our children and school safe.
